WHY DID GOD MAKE YOU? The Baltimore Catechism teaches us that, "God made us to know, love and serve Him in this world, so that we could be happy with Him, forever, in heaven." This profound teaching, which should be presented to all first grade students in Catholic schools, as it was in the past, is full of deep theological meaning for children and adults. TAN Publishers, Inc. makes it available at 1-800-437-5876. Everyone can greatly benefit from a review of the Baltimore Catechism! To "know" God, one must study and spend time with God. Only by study and time can we truly come to know another person. Once we "know" someone, then it is possible to "love" that someone. If we "truly love" someone, then we will want what is best (the highest good) for that someone. The best thing for everyone is TO GET TO HEAVEN. God made us to KNOW, LOVE AND SERVE HIM! God did not make us just to know, love and serve a corporation or business! God did not make us just to know, love and serve a country or a state! God did not make us just to know, love and serve an earthly king or queen! God did not make us just to know, love and serve just our parents or family! God did not make us just to know, love and serve sports or entertainment! God did not make us just to know, love and serve medicine or science! God did not make us just to know, love and serve ourselves!!! God wants us to be at the service of others for the HONOR and GLORY OF GOD! THIS SHOULD BE OUR HIGHEST MOTIVATION AND PRIOITY!!! We serve others for the Honor and Glory of God, and we always help others to get to heaven! If we do not help others to get to heaven, then we help them to get to the other eternal destination, Hell. The word "know" is Covenant Terminology. Look at Genesis 4: 1. "And Adam knew Eve his wife: who conceived and brought forth Cain, saying: I have gotten a man through God." Adam and Eve are in the covenant of Holy Matrimony, and they "knew" each other intimately, through the marital embrace by which children are conceived. Look at the way that Jesus uses this same Covenant Terminology near the end of the Sermon on the Mount (St. Mathew 7: 22-23): "Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity." Obviously, Jesus takes this covenant terminology very seriously, and we must be serious about our own covenant relationship with God. Getting to Heaven is serious business! Don't miss Heaven for the world!!! Remember, The word Sacrament means Sacred Oath which means Sacred Covenant! God wants us to know Him intimately --- in the Covenant Relationship provided through The Seven Holy Sacraments of the Roman Catholic Church! SEVEN IS THE NUMBER OF THE COVENANT If you are truly in a Covenant Relationship with God, then you must do God's will in order to get to heaven. God "will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (1 Timothy 2: 4)
