Seven Major Biblical Themes Ever since the Biblical Theme of Covenant was brought to our attention as an overarching theme that is present throughout the entire Bible, We have been contemplating other possible themes that may be present throughout the ENTIRE LENGTH of the SACRED SCRIPTURES. At this point, we believe that there are Seven Major Themes which run concurrently throughout the entire Holy Bible, forming an overarching, intricately woven, seven-fold and mutually complementary set of major themes, that run from the beginning to the end of the entirety of Sacred Scripture. Below is the outline of these SEVEN MAJOR THEMES: 1. Covenant: By blessing His creation three times in Genesis (Genesis 1: 22 and 28, and 2: 3) The ancient Hebrews understood that God was entering into covenant with His creation to keep His creation in existence! If God makes this covenant with mankind, (man was created on the sixth day, the same day as the beasts were created) then we should imitate God and enter into covenant with Him, especially by resting on the Seventh Day which God blessed and sanctified. If we want to act like beasts of burden, THEN JUST REFUSE TO KEEP HOLY THE LORDS DAY! Remember that a covenant is an exchange of persons, and it also means to "seven oneself"! 2. Spiritual Warfare: The Family of Satan is in constant spiritual warfare with the Covenant Family of God. Satan attacks Adam and Eve in Genesis 3, and Satan attacks Abel in Genesis 4: 8. This Spiritual Warfare, which begins in Genesis, continues throughout the entire Old and New Testaments. God's COVENANT FAMILY is constantly under attack from "the evil one". 3. Liturgical Sacrifice: Adam (which means man or mankind) remained silent and did not speak up to protect his wife, Eve, from the attack of the Serpent. Adam could have intervened, and he could have even fought the serpent physically, laying down his life for his bride, but he did not! Instead, he gave in to the temptation of eating the forbidden fruit! In repentance and reparation, mankind (from Cain and Abel, to Noah, to Abraham, to Moses, David, Solomon and eventually to Jesus Christ Himself, and all through-out Salvation History) offers a liturgical sacrifice AT AN ALTAR to make amends and reparation, and to obtain grace and mercy from Almighty God! When Jesus Christ offered Himself as a pure and holy sacrificial victim, who was sacrificed on the cross to redeem us from our sins, He did so in the context of the Liturgical Passover Meal! Jesus completed the Passover Meal (which had been interrupted during the Last Supper, after the third cup of wine) while hanging on the cross. When Jesus said "I thirst" He was asking for the wine of the 4th cup of the Passover meal. (See Gospel of St. John 19: 28-30) The vinegar was from soured wine, and when Jesus "had taken the vinegar, (and) said: It is consummated." Jesus was completing the Passover Meal on the Cross.
Jesus completed the Passover from the Old Testament System of bloody sacrifices, to the New Testament System of the unbloody sacrifice of the Mass, (The "clean oblation" prophesied in The Book of Malachias 1: 11) and the Seven Sacraments. Jesus was completing the Passover from the Old Testament to the New Testament!!! HOW AWESOME AND HOLY, HOLY, HOLY!!! "And bowing His head, He gave up the ghost," (St. John 19: 30) Is your service on Sunday a Holy Sacrifice offered at an altar? The purpose of an altar is to offer a sacrifice!!! Do you participate in the completely Scriptural Tradition of The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, or do you participate in something less? 4. Faith: Adam and Eve had Faith In God and His promises to them. The same can be said for Abel, Seth, Noe, Sem, Japeth, ....... and on and on. We are all invited to receive the gift of Faith In God, which is freely offered to all! 5. Hope: Adam and Eve had Hope In God and His promises to them. The same can be said for Abel, Seth, Noe, Sem, Japeth, ....... and on and on. We are all invited (daily) to place our Hope In The Lord! Let us place our hope in His Holy and Sacred words and promises! 6. Charity: God's Charity is evident in His Creation of the universe and in His gift of life to us. We are all invited to practice these THREE THEOLOGICAL VIRTUES (FAITH, HOPE AND CHARITY) all of our lives, especially the virtue of Charity. "And now there remain faith, hope, and charity, these three: but the greatest of these is charity." (1 Corinthians 13: 13) 7. Mercy: God's Mercy is evident in allowing Adam and Eve multiple chances of repentance and in the Protoevangelical Promise of a Redeemer and eventual Redemption (See Genesis 3: 15). God also allows us multiple chances of repentance, if we would only call on His mercy (See The Sinners Prayer: Gospel of St. Luke 18: 13). We are also called to be merciful in imitation of Jesus Christ!!! Since SEVEN is the number of the Covenant, and since God deals in the number SEVEN in so many ways in the Sacred Scriptures, isn't it reasonable to conclude that there may be these Seven Major Themes of the Bible? Themes that form an overarching and intricately interwoven Tapestry Of Major Themes that runs throughout the entire Bible from beginning to end? ******* It is now time to be very merciful to many great sinners who occupy decision making positions in the U.S. Senate, the Congress, the Supreme Court, the Presidency and the Governorships too!!! (and Bishops and priests also!!!) Let us imitate Jesus by being merciful to them! Let us "love the sinner, but hate the sin". Let us prove that we are children of God by praying the Gospel Prayer of the Holy Rosary for these leaders who violate so many of God's Commandments.
