In Spain, they are building "Solar Steam"
generation systems. Water is circulated
through a tower around which are designed
reflective mirrors which concentrate
the sun's energy on the tower.
The water changes to steam
(increasing in volume by 1,600 times)
and the steam drives the turbine generators
which produce electricity!

This is one small example of a "Lean To"
style of solar greenhouse.
We advocate the use of this general design concept
along a 50 foot length of a south-facing wall.
The wall could be 50 x 20 (or any similar size)
and constructed of solid reinforced stone or brick.
Protected by the glass enclosure,
the wall can now capture the solar radiation,
and it becomes a heat retaining structure
that captures the heat and transfers the heat
by CONDUCTION, CONVECTION AND RADIATION
into the interior of the house.
Slanted tubular vents could also be built
into the wall to provide natural convection
of air currents that transport the
sun heated air into the interior.
Vents and/or air-ducts could also be used
at the top of the wall,
and a fan (or fans) could be employed
to deliver "free" heat
throughout the interior of the house.
150 BTU's per square foot/hour
x 1,000 square feet (50ft x 20ft)
equals
150,000 BTU's of free solar energy
(potentially) per hour of sunlight!
THIS IS ENOUGH FREE SOLAR ENERGY
TO HEAT MOST LARGE WELL INSULATED HOUSES,
IF YOU BUILD THE STRUCTURE THAT WILL
CAPTURE IT AND USE IT PROPERLY!
Making good use of
